LG Air Conditioner - Why is My A/C Turning Off and On Every Few Minutes

If your A/C is cycling off and on every few minutes, this can be caused by selected settings, inadequate power, a dirty air filter, or in rare cases, a product failure.

Try This

  1. Check the Operation Mode of the Air Conditioner

    • Depending on the mode selected, the A/C's compressor will turn off once a set temperature is reached.
    • It would be recommended to switch to a different mode, or adjust the target temperature setting.

  2. Checking the Power Cord

    • Unplug the power cord and examine the power cord for damage
    • Plug another electronic device (hair dryer or smart phone) to check power is supplied.

  3. Clean the Filter

    • A dirty filter will reduced air flow making it harder to reach your temperature set.
    • Clean the filter periodically to maintain the best performance.

  4. Confirm the Air Conditioner Size (BTUs) Matches the Room Size

    • If the A/C is oversized relative to room, it can cause constant on/off sequences that result in either overheating or overcooling.
    • See the table below to confirm youe A/C meets the recommended room size.
