Refrigerators use the principle of absorbing heat from the surroundings as the refrigerant changes from liquid to gas.
If the cold air created in this way is not spread evenly throughout the refrigerator, it will feel less cool.
If the temperature of the refrigerator is set too high or the installation location is not suitable, the cold air may be weak even when used normally.
Causes and Symptoms
- The set temperature of the refrigerator is incorrect.
- The refrigerator is full of food.
- The refrigerator door is not closed properly.
- The place where the refrigerator is installed is not appropriate.
- Not enough time has elapsed since the refrigerator was installed.
Try this
Is the set temperature of the refrigerator appropriate?
➔ Lower the temperature by one or two levels.
The fridge temperature is set to 3℃ and the freezer temperature is set to -20℃ initially when installed for the first time.
However, if you open and close the refrigerator door frequently in a hot summer, you may feel that the temperature inside the refrigerator is not cold enough because a lot of cold air has escaped.
If you think the cold air in the refrigerator is weak, lower the temperature setting.
In such cases, refer to the user manual for the product.
Is the refrigerator full of food?
➔ Fill the refrigerator with the food only up to about 60% of capacity in order to ensure smooth cold air circulation.
If the food in the refrigerator blocks the cold air outlet, you may feel that the cold air is weak even if you use it normally.
Power consumption also increases.
According to the Korea Energy Agency, it is appropriate to fill the refrigerator with the food to only about 60% of capacity.
This will ensure proper cold air circulation and cold air will be maintained over a long period of time.
Is the refrigerator door not closing properly?
➔ Check the contents below and close the refrigerator door completely.
If the refrigerator door is not closed completely, warm air from the outside may enter, degrading the refrigeration function, so make sure to check it.
- If the door does not close because the drawers or shelves are not assembled properly after cleaning the refrigerator, remove the drawers or shelves and put them back in place correctly.
- If there is too much food in the drawer near the refrigerator door and the door is loose, remove some of the food.
- If the door gasket is contaminated by a foreign object and the door does not close well due to the sticky rubber packing, clean it often.
- If the door gasket on the refrigerator door is worn out and there is a gap, contact the LG Electronics service center for guidance.
Is the refrigerator installed too close to a wall or sink?
➔ Keep a distance of 10cm between the back and sides of the refrigerator and walls.
Cooling the inside of the refrigerator creates hot air, which is usually drawn out through a fan under the back of the refrigerator.
However, if the refrigerator is too close to the wall, it is difficult for this hot air to escape.
Then, the power to cool the food decreases and the cold air supply weakens.
Is the refrigerator in a location which undergoes extreme temperature fluctuations or outside, such as on a balcony?
➔ Refrigerators operate best in locations where the ambient temperature is between 5℃ and 43℃.
Relocate it indoors.
If the temperature of the place where the refrigerator is installed is lower than 5℃ or higher than 43℃, the refrigerator may not be able to function effectively within such a temperature range.
Especially in winter, when the temperature drops very low, the sensor of the refrigerator detects that the temperature is low and the cold air circulation in the fridge slows.
If you have installed the refrigerator outside, such as on a balcony, move it indoors where it is less affected by ambient temperatures.
Did you just install the refrigerator?
➔ It takes time to create enough cold air to reach the optimal refrigeration temperature for storing food.
Place food in the refrigerator after sufficient time has passed.
1-2 hours after plugging in the power cord, cold air starts to accumulate in the refrigerator.
After installing the refrigerator for the first time, you may feel that the cold air supply is weak, so put food in after a reasonable amount of time has passed.
In summer, it may even take 2-3 days to fill the entire refrigerator with cold air.
