[LG Dryer noise] I hear a noise from the dryer.

Troubleshooting

When you use the dryer, do you hear unusual sounds like “clack”, “thud”, “rattle”, “humming”, “beep~”?

The dryer tub rotates to evenly distribute warm air throughout the laundry. During laundry movement, zippers or buttons may hit the tub and produce noise.
Also, when the compressor spins quickly to increase the temperature inside the dryer, the noise can become louder.
As the temperature inside the dryer rises, the rotation speed of the compressor slows and the sound gradually decreases.
When the drainage pump brings in water to clean the condenser, and the water hits the blades, it may generate sound. The sound naturally diminishes when the cleaning is finished.

Causes and Symptoms

  • A zipper or button on the clothes is hitting the tub.
  • There is a noise from the compressor.
  • There is a noise from the drainage pump.

Try this

Do you hear a “clack”, “thud”, “rattle” sound while the tub is spinning?

➔ If the laundry has solid accessories such as zippers or buttons, turn those pieces inside out so that the accessories are on the inside.

The dryer may make a noise if a wet cloth or hard object hits the tub.
Close any zippers or buttons on the clothes, then turn them inside out.
Also, remove any hard objects, such as coins or keys, from pockets on the laundry before putting them in the dryer, or preferably, before putting them into the washing machine for washing.

Warning!

If the shaft that holds the tub of the dryer is loose, or its lubricant hardens, it may make a “beep” or “squeak” sound like striking metal when the tub rotates.
If you hear this kind of noise, contact an LG Electronics service center.

Does the dryer make a “thud” sound as soon as you press the [Start/Pause] button?

➔ This is a natural sound when the rubber part at the bottom of the tub is stretched.

While the Dryer is not in use, the rubber part holding the tub will shrink slightly.
If you operate the dryer in this state, you may hear a “thud” sound as the rubber unfolds back to its original shape.

Noise when operating the dryer

Does the dryer make a “humming” or “beep” sound when it starts?

➔ This is a natural sound made when the compressor starts drying.

When the compressor operates, it makes a “humming” sound.
The compressor spins more quickly to raise the temperature within the dryer when the room where the dryer is situated is cold, which could produce noise.
Also, when the compressor first starts, there may be a brief “beep” sound as the pressure suddenly increases.
If you want to run the dryer more quietly, press the [Drying Saving] button to select [Energy] mode and operate it.

Do you hear a “whirring” or “gurgling” sound during drying?

➔ This is a natural sound made when the drainage pump discharges water.

While the dryer is operating, “whirring” and “gurgling” sounds along with the sound of water draining are the sound of the drainage pump operating.
Water is produced when moist air from wet clothes is converted into dry air, and the drain pump uses this water to automatically clean the condenser.
At this time, as the water hits the blades of the drain pump, a sound may be heard for between 30 seconds to 3 minutes.
