[LG refrigerator - Noise] A loud noisy sound is heard. Severe noise is heard.

Troubleshooting

Causes and Symptoms

  • A loud noisy sound is heard.
  • Severe noise is heard.

After you bought a new refrigerator, moved or cleaned the refrigerator, you may hear a noise coming from the compressor and the fan motor revolving fast when you plug in and turn on the power.
If the floor of the installation site is not level and thus the refrigerator is able to sway, a noisy sound may occur when the refrigerator runs or when you open/close the door.
You may feel that the operating sound is louder if you live in a small space with the refrigerator installed.

Try this

Did you turn the refrigerator off and on by unplugging and then plugging into the power outlet?

If you pulled the plug for the purpose of cleaning or moving your refrigerator, wait at least 10 minutes before you reconnect the power plug after you have finished the cleaning or moving.
An abnormal noise may be heard if you connect the power plug before the refrigerant has stopped flowing and stabilized following movement of your refrigerator.

Is your refrigerator not balanced?

If you hear a loud noise when you open/close the door of the refrigerator, check that your refrigerator is firmly positioned and does not sway.
If the refrigerator sways and tilts too much, the sway caused by opening the door will shake the compressor and cause a loud noise.
Check that the refrigerator is level and firmly based.
Refer to the user’s guide for how to check and adjust the balance/level.

How to adjust balance/level (A spanner comes with the user’s guide.)

Method 1

Open the door and adjust the leveling screws under the lower side of the door by using the spanner until the refrigerator is level/balanced.

② Using the narrower side of the spanner, turn the adjuster hinge pin clockwise or counterclockwise until both doors of the refrigeration compartment and the freezer are at the same level.
③ After leveling the doors, turn the locking nuts counterclockwise fully to tighten them.

Warning!

Do not adjust the height too much.
The hinge pins may become detached.
Height adjustments of up to 3mm can be made.

Is it installed on a wooden floor?

A refrigerator consists of many parts.
In the course of supplying and regulating cooling air, a number of parts operate and make noises.
The volume of various noises may seem different depending on the installation environment and other noises around the machine.
Specifically, if your refrigerator is installed on a wooden floor or is surrounded by household objects, vibrations may be transferred to other objects and thus noises may become louder.
Refer to the user’s guide for how to install the appliance correctly.
