Troubleshooting

What to Do If Your Refrigerator Is Not Freezing or Cooling Properly

If the food in your freezer has melted or thawed, it may be due to a problem with the appliance. The refrigerator relies on the cooling motor (compressor) and fan motor to circulate cold air and keep your food frozen and cool. If any of these parts, or the refrigerant, are malfunctioning, your freezer may not work properly.

What to Check:

  • If there is no cold air or the food inside has thawed, it's best to have a service technician inspect the refrigerator-freezer.

Try This:

  • Is the lamp inside the refrigerator not lighting up when you open the door?

    1. Unplug the refrigerator and plug it back in.
    2. If the lamp still doesn’t light up, try plugging another electrical appliance into the same outlet.
  • If the lamp doesn't light and the appliance doesn’t work:

    • The issue may be with the outlet. In this case, have an electrician check the outlet.
  • If other appliances work fine in the outlet:

    • It’s time to request an in-home service inspection for your refrigerator.
Unplug the power cord and reconnect it

In some products, a refrigerator lamp is not fitted so a lamp will not light when the door is opened.
For whether or not a lamp is fitted to your model, check the user manual.

Check the Location of Your Refrigerator

Refrigerators work best when placed in a location with a stable temperature, ideally between 5°C and 43°C .

  • If your refrigerator is in a place with temperatures below 5°C or above 43°C, it may not work as effectively.
  • In winter, when temperatures drop very low, the refrigerator’s sensor may think the temperature is too cold, causing the circulation of cold air to slow down.
Tip: If your refrigerator is placed outside (like on a balcony), move it indoors where the temperature is more stable and within the recommended range. This will help the refrigerator function properly.

Did You Just Install the Refrigerator?

When you first install a refrigerator, it takes time for it to cool down and reach the right temperature for storing food.

  • How long does it take?

    • About 1-2 hours after plugging it in, cold air starts to build up in the fridge.
    • In some cases, like during hot summer months, it may take 2-3 days for the refrigerator to fully cool down.

Tip: Avoid placing food inside the fridge until it has had enough time to reach the correct temperature.

If the refrigerator still isn’t cooling properly after giving it enough time, it’s best to have a service technician check it for any issues.
