[LG TV] How to check a normal remote control

Troubleshooting

For a normal remote control, it may not work in any of the following cases.

  • Remote control batteries are discharged
  • A part that sends a remote control signal is inoperative
  • Abnormality in the remote control buttons (if only some buttons cannot be pressed)
  • If the remote control signal is not transmitted to the product due to radio wave interference caused by strong lighting in the room
(three-wavelength fluorescent lamps, some lamps operated through electronic ballasts)

Try this

If the remote control batteries are abnormal

1. Check if the LED on the front of the normal remote control turns on when any button is pressed.
If not, replace both remote control batteries at the same time.

2. Open the rear cover, replace the batteries with new ones and check if the TV then operates.

If a remote control button or a part that sends a signal is inoperative

1. With the camera shooting function of your Android cell phone activated, point the camera lens at the top of the remote control.

2. While watching the LCD of your cell phone, press a button that does not work on the remote control repeatedly.

  • If only certain buttons do not light, the remote control may be defective.
  • If all buttons do not light, replace the batteries first of all.

Frequency interference by three-wavelength fluorescent lamps or lamps using electronic ballasts, etc.

1. After turning off the three-wavelength fluorescent lamp, press a button on the remote control to check if it works.

TV remote controls (normal) of LG Electronics are generally compatible with each other, so if you have a different remote control,
you can carry out a faster check by operating the alternate remote control instead.
※ AI (magic) remote controls may not be compatible with each other. Check them separately from normal remote controls.

Note
Separating and storing batteries separately when you do not use the remote control for a long period of time can prevent the batteries from discharging and causing a remote control failure.
➔ If the remote control is not used for a long period of time with the batteries inserted, battery fluid may leak and cause a remote control failure.

Check remote control failures and TV failures separately.
➔ Check if the standby indicator on the TV turns on. If not, it is likely to be a TV problem.
Press the Power button on the TV to see if the power is turned on. The location of the power standby indicator may differ by model.

Check it separately from the remote control for the set-top box.
➔ Some set-top box remote controls have different communication methods, so there are also cases in which you cannot confirm abnormality with the method of using the camera function of your mobile phone or the lamp on the remote control.
