An [X] is displayed on the local area icon when the internet cable is disconnected or the router is turned off.
Causes and Symptoms
- It occurs when the wired LAN(card) device is detected by the laptop but there is no signal detected through the internet cable.
- The local area network icon will show [X] when the LAN cable is disconnected or there is a problem with the internet cable.
- It also occurs when the internet router is powered off.
- When there is an [X] on the local area network, it fails to connect to the internet, and the [Connection failed - Unable to connect] message may appear.
Try this
Correctly connect the wired LAN cable to the router port on the main body of laptop.
1. If the locking tab on both ends of a LAN cable is broken, the cable may not be plugged in correctly, and the laptop may not detect the cable.
2. If the cable is normal, check if there is any foreign substance around it.
3. If there is no port for a LAN cable in the main body of laptop, then use a USB adapter.
4. When using a USB adapter, check if it is correctly inserted into the main body of your laptop.
Check the condition of the Internet router.
1. Check if the router is on.
2. Turn off the router and turn it on again.
※ While the router is on, unplug the power cable and wait for about 30 minutes and then connect it again to power it on.
On the router, press the Reset[RST] button to reset the router.
