[LG Dios dishwasher] [dishwasher] The dishwasher smells unpleasant

Troubleshooting

Do you notice a fishy smell coming from inside the dishwasher or the dishes after you have finished washing?

Causes and Symptom

  • The detergent that you use smells fishy.
  • You use the dishwasher with fish or a milk product, such as cheese, left on your dishes.
  • It’s been a long time since you cleaned the tub.

The dishwasher washes the dishes with hot water and steam.
Therefore, even the detergent or food that normally does not smell fishy may smell after you have used the dishwasher.
In this case you can reduce the offensive odor either by changing the detergent used for washing or by running the Pre Wash.

Try this

Does it begin to smell after you have changed detergent?

➔ Check the commodity information and buyers’ comments on the Internet and consider replacing the detergent.

Every detergent for the dishwasher has its own odor which you may feel smells fishy.
Check the commodity information and buyers’ comments on the Internet and consider changing the detergent.
Use of the manufacturer’s recommended dose of the detergent as noted on the back of the product package may reduce the fishy odor.

Are your dishes heavily stained with egg or cheese?

➔ Remove any food left on your dishes, as much as possible, before you run the dishwasher.

Food materials that contain high protein such as fish, eggs, or cheese contain odorizing substances.
Those substances, when they meet hot water, may spread the fishy smell faster.
Before you run the dishwasher, remove as much food as possible from your dishes and then prewash the dishes with water.
This may reduce the fishy smell.

Discard the food and wash it with water

Are you placing your dishes so that they overlap in the dish basket?

➔ Avoid overlapping dishes so that the water from the nozzle may reach every side of all dishes.

Overlapping dishes may prevent water from reaching all surfaces of the dishes and that may lead to a bad smell.
Place the dishes with wide surfaces into the groove so they stand up in the dish basket.
Make sure that the hollow parts of bowls and cups face downward.

Please arrange the dishes properly

Have you not cleaned the tub for a long time?

➔ Regularly clean the dishwasher using a dedicated cleaner, citric acid, or vinegar.

If you have your machine registered to the LG ThinQ application, you would be informed every 30 runs of the machine, urging you to run the sterilize tub clean.

Running the Tub Clean on your dishwasher
① Remove all dishes from your dishwasher.
② In a case where you use a dedicated cleaner or citric acid, fill up the powder in the detergent dispenser and push the lid until it clicks into its place.
In a case where you use vinegar, place a bowl containing 200~300 ㎖ of vinegar in the center of the top dish basket.
③ Close the door of the dishwasher, press the Power button, press the Intensive button for 3 seconds, and select the Steam Tub Clean.
When you press the Start button and close the door, the Tub Clean will start.
