Refrigerator Buying Guide
Whether you’re upgrading an existing fridge or making it the centerpiece of a full renovation, an LG refrigerator can elevate your kitchen with a combination of form, function and style.
The kitchen should be stress-free so you can focus on what matters, whether it’s everyday family meals or new culinary creations.
We're proud that Consumer Reports has recommended several of our leading LG refrigerators for their reliability, energy efficiency and temperature consistency.*

Just like any home appliance, a refrigerator should reflect your needs as well as style. So, think about the kind of kitchen you want to have and use this buying guide to explore how our line of LG refrigerators can help bring your vision to life.
There are a few things to consider when choosing the type of refrigerator you want. For instance, the layout of your kitchen, available space, proximity to walls or surrounding cabinetry and the way you prefer to organize and store fresh and frozen foods.
4-door French door refrigerators come equipped for maximum flexibility, with extra doors and easy-to-access external drawers to keep your favorites within reach. And with up to 30 cubic feet of storage space, 4-doors are the ideal option for large families, bulk shoppers or anyone who just loves entertaining.
3-door French door refrigerators are among our most popular for their modern look, extra capacity up to 32 cubic feet and premium features like InstaView® and Door-in-Door®. Fresh food is stored at eye level for easy access and a deep bottom-drawer below holds your frozen items.
In a side-by-side refrigerator, the doors extend the entire length with the freezer on the left and the refrigerator on the right, making it easy to take stock of, organize and access your items. Some of these also come with the same features as our French door refrigerators, such as InstaView® and Door-in-Door® for added convenience.
Bottom freezers place the refrigerator compartment at eye level, making it easy for your family to grab their favorites. The bottom drawer stores your frozen items, and gives you overhead view of what you have in stock. With LG’s bottom-freezer refrigerators, you get a perfect mix of style, capacity and freshness technology.
A classic configuration, top freezers store frozen items above the refrigerator compartment. LG reinterprets this traditional fridge for the modern home. In addition to stylish design and precision cooling, some of our very popular top freezer models are equipped with ice makers and internal water dispensers.
When you need precision cooling for specific items, LG’s specialty refrigerators give you greater flexibility and more options, such as upright freezers, single-door refrigerators, and fridges with adjustable temp zones for foods like kimchi. You can also choose a kimchi refrigerator in the French door style.
We put a lot of thought into how families use their refrigerators to not just store food, but also showcase their kitchens and enhance their homes. Consider these innovative options when deciding on the right refrigerator for you.
LG refrigerators are designed to fit your needs and your lifestyle with capacities that go up to a generous 32 cu.ft. From the smallest refrigerator to the largest in our lineup, LG can help you organize and store all of your favorites, while keeping them fresh and easy to find.
Our refrigerators come standard-depth or counter-depth. Standard-depth refrigerators extend a few inches from counters, while counter-depth models are more flush for a sleek, seamless look. Both come equipped with innovative features so you never have to compromise on style for functionality.
LG makes it easy to chill and enjoy beverages your way. Some models come with dual ice makers so you never run out, and are capable of producing up to 4 different kinds of ice. External water dispensers make it easy for your family stay hydrated—even with tall glasses and bottles—without opening the refrigerator door.
Here are just a few of the innovative features found in some of our most popular refrigerators—all family-friendly and designed to make life in your home easier.
InstaView® Window
Take stock of your fridge without having to open the door. Simply knock twice on the glass panel and the interior will light up. The door stays closed, which minimizes cold air loss and helps keep your food fresher, longer.
Full-Convert Drawer™
Give yourself extra refrigerator or freezer space—as you need it. With just the touch of a button, you can select from 5 different temperature settings for all kinds of items such as chilled wine, fresh seafood and frozen treats.
Craft Ice™
Savor drinks your way. Dual ice makers can produce up to 4 types of ice—standard ice cubes, crushed ice, mini cubes and LG's exclusive round Craft Ice™. It’s crafted to melt slower and help beverages taste their best for longer.
Zero Clearance™ Hinge System
No more compromising with tight spaces. Our Zero Clearance™ hinges and thin door design mean you can install your fridge where you might have limited clearance, such as next to a wall or adjacent cabinets. You can enjoy a nearly built-in look that still allows you to fully open both French doors.*
Counter-Depth MAX™
LG’s Counter-Depth MAX™ provides the capacity you typically get in a standard-depth refrigerator in a sleek, counter-depth design that blends seamlessly with surrounding cabinets. Stylish and spacious up to 27 cu. ft., the Counter-Depth MAX has ample space for your favorite foods, keeping them conveniently organized and within easy reach.
It’s important to know where your fridge will fit and how you want it brought into your home. Taking accurate measurements for both delivery and installation before you order will save you time and energy—and potentially a headache.
Measure the space you want to put your new fridge in. You want to find the maximum height, width and depth and account for any potential baseboards, trim or uneven floors.
Note tight entryways and narrow hallways in your home for delivery. Use the measurements you gathered earlier to ensure that your new refrigerator can make it into your kitchen.
Height
Measure for the height in multiple spots to account for uneven floors.
Subtract 1 inch from the smallest measurement to ensure appropriate ventilation.
Width
Measure for the width in multiple spots to ensure you’re accounting for baseboards, trim and warped walls.
This time, subtract 2 inches from the smallest measurement.
Depth
Make sure there’s enough space in front of your refrigerator for the doors to open without impact and for people to pass by.
After measuring, subtract 1 inch from the smallest side for ventilation needs.
Choosing an energy efficient refrigerator has never been easier. Many of ours are ENERGY STAR® certified, which means they exceed minimum federal energy standards to positively impact your energy bill, your energy consumption, and most importantly, the environment.
We know your new refrigerator is an investment. That’s why LG engineered our Inverter Compressor motor for the long haul, keeping your food fresh for years to come. Need more proof? LG confidently backs the motor with a 10-year limited warranty.
Smart features have become the standard for modern refrigerators, putting control and convenience in your hands. That’s why many our refrigerators are compatible with the LG ThinQ app. With it you can check usage, run diagnostics, modify settings, and even get a friendly alert if someone forgets to close the door—all through your smartphone.
