Leaking - Top Load Washer

  • During initial installation, leaks are usually caused by loose or damaged connections at the faucets or the washer.

  • Leaks which occur after continued use are generally the result of clogged drain pipes, a dislodged drain hose, overfilling the tub, or using too much detergent.

  • First, check for leaks around the hot water heater or in other areas.

  • If water is backing up into the wash tub, overflowing the standpipe, or is slow to drain from the sink, the problem is most likely clogged drain pipes.

  • If water is backing up into the wash tub, overflowing the standpipe, or is slow to drain from the sink, Check the drain pipe periodically and remove foreign matter if needed. If draining into a sink, attach a mesh filter bag to the drain hose to avoid future problems.

  • If the drain hose has come out of the sink or standpipe, secure it with the provided tie strap to prevent a reocurrence.

  • If the laundry is large and light, like a blanket, it may float on the water when water is supplied and cause leaking.

  • For best results when washing blankets, use the Blanket or Bedding cycle. Wash one blanket at a time. If needed, pause the cycle and press the blanket down so it is fully immersed in the water, then restart the cycle.

  • Using the wrong detergent or too much detergent can cause suds to overflow the machine.

  • This oversudsing can appear to be a leak. Only use HE detergents, and never use more than the manufacturer's recommended amount of detergent.

  • High efficiency washers use less water, so detergent is concentrated. Using less detergent will leave less soap residue on clothing and will not affect cleaning performance.
