Leveling: Top Load Washer

  • Troubleshooting
Leveling: Top Load Washer

The drum of the washer spins at very high speeds; therefore, it is important that the washer is leveled to help reduce noise and vibrations.

  1. Flooring

    • The washer must be installed on a solidly constructed floor - concrete flooring is best, but wood flooring is acceptable provided it is built to FHA standards.

    • Allowable slope under the entire washer is a maximum 1 inch difference from side to side or from front to back

    • Installing on carpet and soft tile surfaces is not recommended.

    • Never install the washer on a platform, pedestal, or weakly supported structure.

  2. All four leveling feet must rest solidly on the floor. Be sure there is sufficient clearance for water lines, the drain line, and airflow, allowing minimum clearances of at least 1 inch (2.5 cm) at the sides and 4 inches (10 cm) behind the unit.

    • Position the washer in its final location, taking special care not to pinch, strain, or crush the water and drain lines.

    • Attempt to rock the washer from corner to corner to make sure that all four leveling feet are in firm contact with the floor.

    • To adjust the legs, turn clockwise to raise the washer or counterclockwise to lower it.

  3. To ensure the washer is properly level, open the lid and look inside. Check the plastic guard around the drum to see if it is exposed more on one side than another. If the tub is NOT centered (as show in the drawing below), further adjustments are required.

    • checkl the plastic guard
    • The side to which it is leaning is the side that is lower. Raise that side or lower the opposite side until the tub is centered.

    • check the legs
    • If you are uncertain if the unit is leveled by this method there is another method.

    • Lift the lid of the washer, and pour water into the tub until it reaches the top of the pulsator.

    • If the water slants to one particular direction, that side is lower. Raise that side or lower the opposite side until the tub is centered.

If the unit is leaning to one side, the front, back or one of the corners, the leveling feed needs to be adjusted.

check the leg thats leaning

check for tilting
