Standing type of Kimchi refrigerators generate cold air and supply the cold air to each storage compartment based on their respective settings.
Each compartment setting can be configured differently so certain compartments are cooler or less cold than others.
Setting the mode and temperature based on the type and salt concentration of kimchi helps to keep the kimchi fresh for a longer time.
Try this
Choose the right storage setting based on the type and salt concentration of kimchi.
➔ To store freshly made Kimchi, select the [Kimchi] mode.
Depending on the type and salt level of kimchi, you can set the storage temperature to one of [Low], [Medium], or [High] cooling.
For kimchi that is not as salty, such as water kimchi or radish kimchi, set the cooling to [L].
For kimchi of medium saltiness, such as cabbage kimchi or mustard kimchi, set the cooling to [M].
For very salty kimchi, such as over fermented kimchi, set the cooling to [H].
Fridge setting | Water kimchi, radish kimchi (not salty) Salt concentration of 2% or below |
Cabbage kimchi, mustard kimchi (medium saltiness) Salt concentration of 2.2~3% |
Old, over fermented kimchi (very salty) Salt concentration of 3.1% or higher |

If you use other containers to store kimchi, the kimchi might freeze due to poor circulation of cold air.
Then, repeatedly press the same compartment button until the setting you wish to choose lights up.
For instance, if you press the [Bottom] compartment button, then it will toggle in the order of [Kimchi(M→ H→ L)]→[Produce(M→ H→ L)]→[Rice/ Grain]→[Storage]→[Fast Chill]→[Off].
Even if you do not press the [Lock] button, the mode you chose will be automatically operated after 60 seconds.

Store your kimchi in the LG Electronics kimchi container and only fill up to the max storage line.
These special kimchi containers are designed to facilitate the even circulation of cold air.
If you use other containers or plastic bags to store kimchi, the air may not be circulated properly and the kimchi might freeze.
In addition, if you fill the container up to its maximum capacity, kimchi juice may overflow as kimchi ripens.
So only fill up to the max storage line and check for any overflows after three or four days.
Firmly press the kimchi down making sure it is soaked in its juice.
Cover the kimchi using a plastic deli sheet.
Only use the [Kimchi+] mode to store freshly made kimchi.
[Kimchi+] helps the growth of lactic acid bacteria in freshly made kimchi.
The initial setting is configured to a temperature at which lactic bacteria grows very well.
The temperature is later decreased so that the kimchi can be stored for longer.
However, if you use [Kimchi +] to store not so salty kimchi, such as water kimchi or radish kimchi, the kimchi could freeze.
Even in the case of cabbage kimchi, if you use the setting more than twice, the kimchi could go sour.
So, remove frost as often as possible.
First, open the kimchi refrigerator door to let the cold air out and then take out all the foods.
Using a blunt tool, such as a plastic scoop, scrape the frost.
Alternatively, spray the frost with hot water and then use a dry cloth to wipe the melted frost.
If frost formation occurs frequently, check if outside air is coming in through a gap in the Kimchi refrigerator door.
