LG Kimchi Refrigerator - Why is My Kimchi Frozen?

  • Troubleshooting

Causes and Symptoms

  • If you store water kimchi together with cabbage kimchi, water kimchi could freeze.
  • If kimchi is not submerged in kimchi juice, the kimchi could freeze.
  • If kimchi is not stored in a kimchi container, the kimchi could freeze.

Why kimchi gets frozen

➔ If you store water kimchi together with cabbage kimchi, the water kimchi could freeze.

As water kimchi is low in salt concentration, it could freeze even using [Kimchi] mode.

Even though [Kimchi] mode was used, water kimchi froze.

➔ If kimchi is not submerged in its juice, the kimchi could freeze.

After some time in storage, salt and seasoning of kimchi will sink, lowering the salt concentration of the kimchi closer to the surface.
As a result, exposed kimchi above the liquid could freeze.

If kimchi is not submerged in its juice, the kimchi may freeze.

➔ If you store kimchi without using a kimchi container, kimchi could freeze.

Kimchi is stored sub zero degrees Celsius, so parts exposed to cold air can get frozen.

If kimchi is not stored in a kimchi container, it could freeze

Try this

➔ Use [Kimchi] mode at ‘L’ cooling to store not so salty kimchi.

Before refrigeration, firmly press the kimchi down so it is submerged in its juice and cover it with a plastic deli sheet to block entry of air.

If a thin ice layer formed on kimchi while being stored in [Kimchi] mode, change the setting.

➔ Switch from [Kimchi] ‘H’ mode to ‘M’. If cooling was at ‘M’, switch to ‘L’.
