LG Laptop - How to Inspect for Virus/Malware/Ransomware

If infected with a virus, booting errors or slow down can occur, thus you can use the vaccine in this case to treat and prevent them.

Causes and Symptoms

If one of the following symptoms is found consistently or suddenly, then it might be an infection by a virus.

  • The PC slows down more than usual.
  • The booting fails or the error messages are displayed.
  • The blue screen appears frequently.
  • Specific file information(size, name and etc) consistently changes.
  • There is a suspicious symptoms that normally does not exist.
  • Strange files(ex: wosfawr.exe, iliawtzg.exe and etc) are created.
Refer to the types of viruses.
  • PC virus - Self duplication is the key. It turns normal programs and codes into malware and thus broadcasting them to the entire PC software.
  • Malware(Malicious software) - Instead of being made for normal functions, it refers to every code that serves the malicious purposes that can cause harms to users.
  • Adware - It launches various ads to get profits in bold manners.
  • Spyware - It hides in the user's PC to steal critical data.
  • Trojan horse - Disguise is the key. Just like Trojan horse in Greek myth, it is hard to know it is malware at first glance, but it can infect the user’s PC after deceiving them in a disguise.
  • Worm- Network broadcasting is the key. Instead of individually operating on each terminal, it infects the entire networks that combine terminals.
  • Ransomware - It is a type of PC virus that conquers the user's PC or encrypts data on it and then demands money in return for allowing them to resume normal operation.

How to prevent a virus.

  • Set virus(vaccine) software to [Enable Realtime Inspection].
  • You must periodically update it and install the Windows security updates programs.
  • If there is a suspicious site(harmful site) or program, review them before accessing the site or installing the program.
  • Periodic arrangement of temporary files on the PC might be helpful.

➔ To prevent a virus, In [Virus & threat protection Setting], switch [Real-time Protection] to [On].

1. In the task bar search field, select [ search Virus & threat protection] > [Virus & threat protection Setting updates] > [Protection Updates].

Click Protection Updates in the Virus & Threat Protection Updates section.

2. In [Security intelligence], select [Check for updates] to execute the updates.

3. In [Virus & threat protection Setting], switch [Real-time Protection] to [On].

Please turn on real-time protection in the virus and threat protection settings.

How to inspect and treat viruses.

➔ After treating viruses, you might experience data loss, booting failures and so on.

※ Make sure to back up critical data in an external storage device ahead of time.

➔ Inspecting and treating with Microsoft Defender(vaccine provided from Windows).

1. In the task bar search field, select [ search Virus & threat protection] run [Quick scan] to inspect and treat them.

Please run a quick scan in the Virus & threat protection section.

➔ Deleting malware. (Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool, MSRT)

1. After entering [ search mrt ] in the task bar search field, run it. (If there is no Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool (MSRT), then click the following link and download and install it.)

2. Run [Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool] and click [Next] to inspect them.

※ Using [View List of Malware that can be Searched and Deleted], you can check the information about malware.

Click Next in the Welcome to the Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal tool section.

➔ Preventing ransomware. (provided from Windows)

1. In the task bar search field, select [ search Virus & threat protection] and select [Ransomware protection] > [Manage Ransomware Prevention].

※ Use [Protected Folder] and [Allow App through Controlled Folder Access] to protect the file against ransomware.
