LG Refrigerator – How to Level a Fridge

  • Installation

At a Glance

Proper leveling of the refrigerator and the individual doors ensure efficient operation of the unit. A leveled refrigerator prevents air leakage, which may cause frost buildup around the ice maker and freezer fans.

Tips for proper leveling:

There are four wheels on the unit. The two in the back can move from front to back, while two in the front can move and turn to the sides. There are only two leveling feet, and they are positioned in front of the two front wheels.

  • To avoid vibration, the unit must be leveled. If required, adjust the leveling legs to compensate for unevenness of the floor.
  • The leveling legs can be turned easily by having someone push the unit against the wall to remove some weight off the feet. Turn the leveling legs clockwise to raise the unit, or counterclockwise to lower it.
  • The refrigerator must not have any side tilt, use the front legs to balance each side.
  • Tilt the refrigerator slightly to the rear (by turning both leveling screws clockwise) to ensure that the doors close easily without a push.
  • To achieve a balanced rear tilt, turn the leveling screws at the same amount of rotation.
  • The door should shut by itself when opened at a 45-degree angle.
  • If you are having difficulties with lowering the legs, lightly tilt the refrigerator backward, and place a wooden block under the front edge.
  • If the refrigerator had frost buildup; allow up to 72 hours for the defrost cycle to eliminate the frost. For new installations, allow the refrigerator to run for at least 4 hours before storing food.

These tools are required. The plate is optional. Check the video details for more information.

Step 1. Check if the refrigerator is level for an accurate measurement hold the spirit level on the side of the appliance.

Step 2. Adjust the legs. Measure again to check if the refrigerator is level. Try to shake the appliance a little.

If it shakes a lot, this means that the floor surface on the back is uneven and you may need to use a back plate.

Step 3. Level the doors. Notice the difference in the height of the doors. To adjust the height of the door we turn the adjustment screw as shown here but first loosen the lock nuts.

Now measure again to check if the doors are level. Finally, do not forget to re-tighten the lock nuts.

    Leveling a Side-by-Side Refrigerator

1Open both the refrigerator and freezer doors.

2The wheels and leveling feet are always located behind the lower cover (also called a kick plate or toe grille). To access the leveling feet, the lower cover must be removed.

3Remove the screws on the kick plate grille (some models do not have a kick plate, only follow this step if it is applicable).

4Remove the kick plate to access the leveling screws.

5The side-by-side model has two leveling screws, one on the right, and one on the left.

6Turn the leveling leg clockwise to raise the compartment door. It may take several turns of the leveling leg to adjust the tilt of the compartment door.

7If you prefer to lower the compartment; you need to turn the leveling leg counter-clockwise to align with the other compartment door.

[LG Refrigerators] French Door Leveling & Door Alignment

When your refrigerator doors appear to be uneven, there are two possible causes. One causes an uneven refrigerator cabinet.

This is the more common of the two.

The second possible causes the doors being uneven and should only be checked after the level of the Cabinet has been verified.

To level the cabinet of the refrigerator, first, remove the base grill.

Use a Phillips head screwdriver to remove both the left and the right holding screws.

Some models do not have a base plate.

Follow this step only if applicable.

Your LG refrigerator has to front leveling screws one on the right and one on the left. If your refrigerator seems unsteady or you want the doors to close easier, adjust the refrigerator tilt.

Using these instructions, use a flathead screwdriver to adjust the leveling screws. Turn the leveling screw clockwise or left to raise that side or counterclockwise or right to lower it. It may take several turns of the leveling screw to adjust the tilt of the refrigerator, open both doors again and check to make sure that they close easily if they don't tilt the refrigerator slightly more to the rear by turning both leveling screws clockwise.

    Adjust refrigerator back tilt

It may take several more turns, and you should turn both the leveling screws by the same amount, depending on the flatness of your floor.

More or less adjustment may be required to provide enough back tilt LG for the doors to close easily. When finished, use a level to verify the side to side leveling of the Cabinet.

If, after verifying the leveling of the Cabinet, the doors air still uneven, you may need to align the refrigerator doors themselves.

Door alignment can be used when the top of your refrigerator doors are uneven to proceed.

    Follow these steps.

Both the left and right refrigerator doors have an adjustable nut located on the bottom hinge of the door. These are used to raise and lower the doors, used the wrench provided with the owner's manual. To turn the knot in the door, hinge and adjust the height. Turn the nut to the right to raise the door or to the left to lower the door. Following these steps will ensure that your refrigerator Kevin it is leveled as well as your doors.
