LG Refrigerator - How to Winterize your Refrigerator

If your refrigerator is stored in an unheated location like a basement, garage, or if you are relocating to your summer home for the winter season; you want to protect your appliances to ensure they are not exposed to below freezing temperatures.

Note
  • Refrigerators may have residual water in the pump and hoses that can freeze and damage your pipes during cold weather.
  • Taking these precautions to protect your refrigerator will prevent damage and optimize performance.

  1. Turn Off the Water Supply to the Refrigerator

  2. Turn the Icemaker to the “OFF” Setting

    refrigerator icemaker off
  3. Clean the Refrigerator

    1Remove all food items.

    2Clean the inside of the refrigerator with a mild detergent or baking soda.

    3Dry all surfaces.

  4. Disconnect the Water Line

    1Disconnect the water lines on the back of the refrigerator.

    2Use the bucket to collect the remaining water from the lines.

  5. Pull the Unit Away from the Wall

    (Recommended) If the wall behind the refrigerator is not insulated and your expecting below freezing temperatures, pull your refrigerator away from the wall, clearance should be 2 feet.

  6. Unplug the Unit’s Power Cord

    (Optional) If you are leaving for the winter, keep the refrigerator unplugged and the doors propped open until ready for use again.
