LG Sound Bar – Troubleshooting No Audio from External Sound System

  • Troubleshooting

At a Glance

No audio from an external sound system is normally caused by an incorrect source, improper input, or an inadequate volume level.

Note
  • If the system does not power on, refer to Device Has No Power.
  • If the system speakers play sound, but your wireless subwoofer does not, refer to Connecting Your Wireless Subwoofer.

Try This

  1. Choose you Connection Type:

    WIRELESS / BLUETOOTH eARC / ARC OPTICAL
  2. Select your Media Source:

    Internal TV Apps
    (Netflix, Hulu, etc.)
    External Device
    (PC, Set Top Box, etc.)
  3. Select your Media Source:

    Internal TV Apps
    (Netflix, Hulu, etc.)
    External Device
    (PC, Set Top Box, etc.)
  4. Select your Media Source:

    Internal TV Apps
    (Netflix, Hulu, etc.)
    External Device
    (PC, Set Top Box, etc.)
  5. Check The Volume

    1Ensure the TV and Sound device are powered on.

    2Launch one of the Internal TV apps on your LG TV.

    3Ensure the volume on the TV and sound device are turned up to 10 or higher.

    Are you able to audio now?

    Yes No
  6. Check The Volume

    1Ensure the TV, connected device, and sound device are powered on.

    2Ensure the volume on the TV and sound device are turned up to 10 or higher.

    Are you able to hear audio now?

    Yes No
  7. Power Cycle the TV

    1Power off the TV.

    2Power the TV back on.

    3Go to the App you wish to use.

  8. Check the Connection

    1Power off the TV.

    2Disconnect the HDMI cable of the connected devices from the LG TV for 3 seconds then reconnect it to the HDMI eARC/ARC port.

    3Power the TV back on.

    4Ensure the external sound device is on the correct input source.

    5Confirm the TV’s Sound Out setting is set to HDMI ARC.

    • [2024 WebOS24 / WebOS 23]: [All Settings] → [Sound] → [Sound Out] → [Use Wired Speaker] → [HDMI (ARC) Device].
    • [2022 WebOS22 / WebOS 21]: [All Settings] → [Sound] → [Sound Out] → [Use Wired Speaker] → [HDMI (ARC) Device].
    • [2020 WebOS5.0 or older]: [All Settings] → [Sound] → [Sound Out] → [HDMI ARC Device].

    If you are unable to hear anything retry the steps again. If still unable to connect, service may be required. Please reach out to our 24/7 Chat Support for further assistance.

  9. Able to Hear Audio? - Yes

    Awesome! It appears the problem was caused by the volume being turned down.

  10. Able to Hear Audio? - No

    Lets perform an A/V Reset

  11. AV REset

    The AV Reset will reset all picture and sound settings to factory default.

    1Exit all internal apps and menus of the TV.

    2Press the [Mute] button repeatedly on the LG remote until [Select a Menu] appears.

    Note
    • The details of the AV Reset menu may vary depending on the model.
    • Performing the AV Reset will reset all Picture and Sound Settings to the Factory default settings.

    3Once the menu appears, select [AV Reset].

    4Relaunch a Internal TV app and turn up the TV volume.


    Are you able to hear audio from the internal TV speakers now?

    Yes No
  12. Sound? - Yes

    This lets us know that TV audio is working properly. Lets reconnect the external device to the TV.

    • [2024 WebOS24 / WebOS 23]: [All Settings] → [Sound] → [Sound Out] → [Use Wireless Speaker].
    • [2022 WebOS22 / WebOS 21]: [All Settings] → [Sound] → [Sound Out] → [Use Wireless Speaker].
    • [2020 WebOS5.0 or older]: [All Settings] → [Sound] → [Sound Out].
