LG TV - Troubleshooting Intermittent Sound Issues on an LG TV

At a Glance

If sound issues occur while watching TV, this can be caused by an unstable broadcast signal, a connection issue with the external device, or in rare cases a failure with the TV.

[LG WebOS TVs] How to Use Sound Self Diagnosis On Your LG TV - WebOS 22

Go to All Settings.

Under Support select OLED Care and then device self-care to optimize your TV.

Now select sound self-diagnosis to perform a sound test.

Follow the instructions to see if your TV has any audio problems.

If the issues persist contact LG support for more help.

Try This

  1. Are you using the internal TV speakers or an external sound system?

  2. Select Your WebOS Version

    WebOS 24 WebOS 23 / Web OS 22 WebOS 6.0 / WebOS 5.0 WebOS 4.5 or OLDER How to find out?

  4. Identifying the WebOS Version:

    1 Press the image of the mute button on the remote Mute] button on the TV remote 3 times repeatedly.

    2Platform will help you identify the WebsOS version.

    WebOS 24 WebOS 23 / Web OS 22 WebOS 6.0 / WebOS 5.0 WebOS 4.5 or OLDER
  5. WebOS 4.5 or OLDER


    Press the settings button Setting button on the remote control ➔ [All Settings] ➔ [Sound] ➔ [Sound Test].


    Can you clearly hear the test sound play through the internal TV Speakers?

    Yes No
  6. WebOS 6.0 / WebOS 5.0


    Press the settings button Setting button on the remote control ➔ [All Settings] ➔ [Support] ➔ [Additional Settings] ➔ [Sound Test].


    Can you clearly hear the test sound play through the internal TV Speakers?

    Yes No
  7. WebOS 23 / WebOS 22


    1 Turn on the TV and press the Setting button button on your LG TV remote.

    2Select [Gear Icon] to open the Settings menu.

    3Select [General].

    4Select [OLED Care] [Device Self Care] then [Sound Self-diagnosis] and follow the on screen prompts.

  8. WebOS 24


    1 Turn on the TV and press the Setting button button on your LG TV remote.

    2Select [Gear Icon] to open the Settings menu.

    3Select [Support].

    4Then select [Sound Self-diagnosis] and follow the on screen prompts.

  9. Able to hear the test sound in the interal TV speaker


    Lets check the cnnection to the device

    5Power off the TV.

    6If you are using an external device to display conent on your TV, power it off as well, disconnect the HDMI cable of the connected device and from the LG TV for 3 seconds then reconnect it.

    7Power the TV back on and start the video source again.


    Is the sound working properly now from the video source?

    Yes No
  10. Can not hear the test sound in the interal TV speaker

    Lets perform an A/V Reset

    Note
    • The AV reset refreshes the picture and sound settings to the out-the box- factory defualts.
    • The details of the AV Reset menu may vary depending on the model.

    1Exit all internal apps and menus of the TV.

    2 Press the image of the controler mute button button 3 times in a row on your remote control to display the [Select functions you want to access] pop-up.

    3Select [AV Reset] to initialize the picture and sound settings.
