LG Refrigerator – Troubleshooting Ice Maker Dispenses Crushed Ice When Set to Cubed

  • Troubleshooting

At a Glance

When the unit dispenses crushed ice when set to cube, follow the checklist below for possible resolutions.

Note

If you see any error code on the display screen, please visit our LG Refrigerator – Error Code List article for further assistance.

Try This

  1. Check the Ice Type Button

If the function was used to dispense crushed ice, then changed to dispense ice cubes, any remaining crushed ice may be dispensed. Confirm the correct dispenser type is selected.

    Note

Control panel layout and button location will vary depending on model type and year.

  2. Check the Ice Bin for Clumps

Ice clumping together and/or breaking into pieces when the dispenser engages can occur if ice usage is low. This is a normal operation. Break up the ice cubes by shaking the bin to loosen the cubes or use an ice pick. Once the cubes are loosened, reinsert the ice bucket properly and try dispensing ice again.

  3. Check the Icemaker Compartment Door is Closing Properly

If the unit is not able to properly maintain the temperature, ice melting will cause the cubes to break apart easily. This will also allow the cubes to clump as the temperature rises and drops (melts and refreezes).

  4. Check the Ice Chute

Frequent use of crushed ice can lead to ice fragments being left behind and clumping together in the dispenser chute. Take a damp cloth and clean out all ice fragments, reinstall the ice bucket again and try dispensing ice.
