ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, N.J., Feb. 6, 2025 — Home appliance leader LG Electronics USA is reaffirming its longstanding commitment to consumer safety with education initiatives focused on safe kitchen practices.
LG is encouraging consumers to use the proprietary function called “Lock Out” or “Control Lock” on its slide-in and freestanding electric ranges with front-mounted knobs. This innovative function, available since 2015 only on LG ranges, locks the cooktop heating elements from being turned on even when the knob is turned, reducing the risk of accidental activation.
As part of its efforts, LG is offering a free label reminding consumers of Lock Out/Control Lock with placement instructions for electric ranges. These labels serve as a visual reminder to activate the range’s unique safety features, helping prevent unintended contact. Consumers can find detailed instructions on using the patented Lock Out/Control Lock innovation, as well as an instructional video at LGcares.com.
“The home appliance industry’s top priority is to design appliances that are as safe as they are useful. When safety tips, advisories or service upgrades are offered, consumers can trust that the manufacturer is presenting the most current information to help you stay safe and have a positive experience while using their product,” said Kelly Mariotti, president and CEO of the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers.
Additional kitchen cooking safety tips recommended by LG include:
LG electric ranges are also equipped with additional safety features, including a “Burner On” indicator light, an audible alert when the knob is turned, and a “Hot Surface” indicator light. These measures, combined with the label reminding of the Control Lock/Lock Out function, provide multiple layers of protection to promote safe range operation.
“At LG, consumer safety and satisfaction are our top priorities,” said LG Electronics USA Senior Vice President John I. Taylor. “We are committed to providing consumers with the knowledge, tools and resources they need to create a safe environment to use our smart home solutions. We encourage all LG range owners to familiarize themselves with and use the full suite of safety features our appliances offer.”
