ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, N.J., May 26, 2023 – The fourth episode of Season Two of LG Channels’ original docu-series The Rivalries will feature the NCAA DII softball rivalry between the Augustana University Vikings and the Minnesota State Mavericks in “Head-to-Head in the Heartland.” Premiering Monday, May 29 at 8:00 p.m. ET, exclusively on LG Smart TVs, the over three-decades-old rivalry is deadlocked with head coaches matching against each other 28-28, and Augustana University leading the all-time series 79-58.

The Rivalries series is available free and exclusively on the NCAA® Championships Channel (Channel 100) via LG Channels on LG Smart TVs.  Each episode highlights a different sports rivalry as told through interviews, historical moments, and the most recent game footage. Encore presentations of “Head-to-Head in the Heartland” will be on Monday, May 29 at 11:00 p.m. ET and Tuesday, May 30 at 9:00 p.m. ET. Future episodes will be announced at a later date. LG Electronics USA is an official partner of the NCAA.

This fierce DII rivalry stems from a 1989 NCAA Tournament meeting where the Mavericks defeated the Vikings 1-0. Just days later the Vikings came back with renewed determination and eliminated the Minnesota State Mavericks from the DII tournament with a 1-0 win. Since then, the Mavericks and Vikings have been battling it out on the softball diamond for nearly four decades. This year, the Minnesota State Mavericks are led by acclaimed NCAA DII coach, Lori Meyer, and are fixed on striking out the team with the most successful DII softball program in the country, the Augustana University Vikings.

The exclusive content series is part of a three-year partnership with the NCAA, Turner Sports, and CBS Sports for category exclusive marketing and distribution rights to NCAA Championship competitions that will expand the reach of college sports to legions of current fans and generations of new ones. LG's support of the NCAA Championships will include multiple initiatives to inspire student-athletes including the recent launch of the NCAA Championships Channel, which will feature up to 50 NCAA Fall, Winter and Spring championships, both live and on-demand via LG’s exclusive free streaming service, LG Channels.
