LG TVs deliver highly detailed video content in rich colors with smooth motion and elevated brightness. If the image quality you see on your LG TV is not as eye-catching as you expected, there are some troubleshooting steps you can take to resolve the issue.

  1. Select Your Issue:

    If the image is blocky, pixelated, or grainy, this may be caused by a poor connection, or lower quality content displayed on a UHD TV.

  3. Identifying the WebOS Version:

    1 Press the image of the mute button on the remote Mute] button on the TV remote 3 times repeatedly.

    2Platform will help you identify the WebsOS version.

  4. Picture Test


    1 Turn on the TV and press the Setting button button on your LG TV remote.

    2Select [All Settings] (the 3 dots) to open the Settings menu.

    3Select [Picture].

    4Then select [Picture Test].

    5Perform [Picture Test] to check the screen condition.


    If the picture looks fine, the next step is to perform an A/V reset:

    1 Turn on the TV and press the Setting button button on your LG TV remote.

    2Select [Gear Icon] to open the Settings menu.

    3Select [Support].

    4Then select [Additional Settings].

    5Select [Picture Test].

    6Perform [Picture Test] to check the screen condition.

    7Press [Yes] to display a screen comparing FHD and UHD.


    If the picture looks fine, the next step is to perform an A/V reset:

    1 Turn on the TV and press the Setting button button on your LG TV remote.

    2Select [Gear Icon] to open the Settings menu.

    3Select [Support].

    4Then select [Screen Self-diagnosis].

    5Select perform [Picture Test] to check the screen condition.

  7. Screen Self-diagnosis

    1 Turn on the TV and press the Setting button button on your LG TV remote.

    2Select [Gear Icon] to open the Settings menu.

    3Select [Support].

    4Then select [Screen Self-diagnosis].

    5Once selected, follow the on screen prompts.

  8. AV Reset

    Note
    • The AV reset refreshes the picture and sound settings to the out of the box factory defualts.
    • The details of the AV Reset menu may vary depending on the model.

    1 Press the [Mute] button 3 times in a row on your AI (Magic) or general (button-only) remote control to display the [Select functions you want to access] pop-up.

    2Select [AV Reset] to initialize the picture and sound settings.

  9. Dark or Dim Picture

    How to fix when your TV screen is too dark or blurry

    Select the all settings icon and navigate to Picture Settings.

    Use Select Mode to choose the Vivid option to create more clarity and brightness.

    For more precise correction, return to the Picture Settings Menu and select Advanced Settings.

    Within Advanced Settings, select Brightness.

    There you can adjust the screen brightness to your preference.

  11. How to change Picture mode


    Press the Setting button button on the remote control and select [All Settings] → [Picture] → [Picture Mode Setting]


    1Turn on the TV and press the [Settings] button on the remote control.
    From [Settings], select [All Settings].

    2From [Picture], select [Picture Mode Settings].

    3While you change the [Picture Mode], check the Picture brightness.

    Note

    It is necessary to set the desired picture mode every time there is a change in the input mode, as the picture mode settings (brightness/quality) may differ depending on the Picture input (digital broadcasting, HDMI, etc.).


    If you wish to further customize the settings yourself rather than using the preset modes you can use the following steps.

  12. Change the brightness on Advanced Custom Settings


    Press the Setting button button on the remote control and select [All Settings] → [Picture] → [Picture Mode Setting]


    1Turn on the TV and press the [Settings] button on the remote control.
    From [Settings], select [All Settings].

    2From [Picture], select [Picture Mode Settings].

    3You can adjust the brightness separately in [Picture Mode Setting].

    Note

    It is necessary to set the desired picture mode every time there is a change in the input mode, as the picture mode settings (brightness/quality) may differ depending on the Picture input (digital broadcasting, HDMI, etc.).

    When only part of the Picture appears black and white or dark
    This symptom is not because TV is a defect, but rather because fighting channels (i.e. UFC channel), frequently show scenes that are graphic or have excessive bleeding. To overcome the reluctance to watch, the area is therefore handled in black and white.
    The same logic applies to some channels where scenes show up in mosaic patterns.

  13. How to change Picture mode


    Press the Setting button button on the remote control and select [All Settings] → [Picture] → [Select Mode] → [Vivid].


    1Turn on the TV and press the [Settings] button on the remote control.
    From [Settings], select [All Settings].

    2Select [Picture] → [Select Mode].

    3You can try different modes that have preset settings, this may enhance the tvs performance in the current environment it's set up in.

  14. Change the brightness on Advanced Custom Settings


    Press the Setting button button on the remote and select [All Settings] → [Picture] → [Advanced Custom Settings] → [Brightness] → [OLED Pixel Brightness].


    Note

    You can’t change the brightness if the setting is on [Auto Power Saving] Mode.

    1Turn on the TV and press the [Settings] button on the remote control.
    From [Settings], select [All Settings].

  15. Change the Mode or change the brightness on Advanced Custom Settings


    1 Turn on the TV and press the Setting button button on your LG TV remote.

    2Select [Gear Icon] to open the Settings menu.

    3Select [Picture].

    4Then select [Select Mode].

  16. Picture Aspect Ratio


    Change the screen size to ensure the Picture you are watching is the right ratio.

    3Under [Aspect Ratio], change the Screen Size.

    Press the Setting button button on the remote control and select [All Settings] → [Picture] → [Aspect Ratio] → [User Selection].

    1Turn on the TV and press the [Settings] button on the remote control.

    1 Turn on the TV and press the Setting button button on your LG TV remote.

    2Select [Gear Icon] to open the Settings menu.
