LG Air Conditioner – How to Fix A/C Power Issues

At a Glance

If your LG air conditioner does not power on, it's possible a power outage in the home tripped the circuit breaker, the individual outlet has no power, or the unit is defective. Please follow the troubleshooting steps below for your A/C unit.

Note

      1. Check the A/C power cord.

        Unplug the power cord and inspect it for damage or splitting. If free of damage, plug the A/C power cord into its own outlet and ensure it is fully inserted.

        Note

      2. Check if the circuit breaker is tripped.

        Inspect the home's circuit breaker or the fuse dedicated to the air conditioner to see if it has been tripped or is blown. Reset or replace if necessary.

      3. The current interrupter device is tripped.

        Press the [RESET] button located on the power cord plug. If the [RESET] button will not stay engaged, discontinue use of the air conditioner, as service is required.

      1. Check the air conditioner display for any error codes.

        Error codes can indicate a problem with the unit or that maintenance is required for proper function.

      2. Check if the mode was switched from Cooling to Heat

        To protect the compressor, the fan and compressor will momentarily stop if you switch modes from Cool to Heat or vice versa. After a few minutes, the product will resume operating in the new mode.

      3. Check the A/C power cord

        Unplug the power cord and inspect it for damage or splitting. If free of damage, plug the cord in and ensure it is fully inserted into the outlet.

      4. Check if the circuit breaker is tripped

      2. Normal operation.

        It is normal for the air conditioner to cycle on and off every 5 to 10 minutes when the area has reached the desired temperature set in the display.

        Note

        If you wish to change this, try selecting a different cooling mode or lowering the set temperature.

      1. Confirm the outlet and breaker meets the power supply requirements.

      2. Ensure the air conditioner is on a dedicated circuit breaker.

        Turn off all other electronics in the room and try using the unit again. If it operates properly, the unit is not on a dedicated breaker.

      3. Check the A/C power cord

      1. Energy Saver is Turned On.

        Check the owner's manual for your air conditioner to determine the specifications for your specific model. Visit our Manuals and Documents page to download a copy.

        How to deactivate Energy Saver Mode:

        1. Power [ON] the air conditioner.

        2. Press the [Mode] key repeatedly until "Energy Saver" mode is deselected.

      2. Check the temperature setting and mode.

        Turn off all other electronics in the room and try using the unit again. If it operates properly, the unit is not on a dedicated breaker.
