Water Filter Installation - Refrigerator

Changing the water filter of your refrigerator when it needs to be replaced makes it easy to always keep water and ice tasting great. Replacing the water filter is easy and you can do it yourself. Replace using only LG Brand filters that are not expired. Avoid using Non-LG Brand Water filter and Using a water filter for more than recommended period (6 months)

Use of consumable products that are NOT Authorized by LG is not covered under Warranty

LG recommends replacing the water filter every six months. If you have been using the filter for more than 6 months issues caused by this are not covered under Warranty

How to change LT1000P water filter.

  1. Remove the top shelf.

    If the top shelf, which is located below the water filter, is in the highest position, it will need to be removed. This can be done in two simple steps:

    • Tilt up the front of the shelf and lift it.

    • Pull the shelf out.

  2. Remove old water filter.

    Pull the old water filter downward and turn it counter-clockwise to pull it out. Make sure to rotate the filter down completely before pulling it out of the manifold hole.

  3. Install new water filter.

    Take a new water filter out of its packaging and remove the protective cover from the o-rings. With the filter tabs in the horizontal position, push the new filter into the manifold hole, rotate it up into place, and close the cover.

  4. Remove trapped air.

    Now that the filter is replaced, dispense 2.5 gallons of water to remove trapped air and contaminants from the system. Depress and release the dispenser pad for cycles of 30 seconds ON and 60 seconds OFF, rather then dispensing continuously.

    If your model is equipped with a water filter indicator on the display, press and hold the FILTER button or RESET button for approximately 5 seconds to reset the filter indicator.


How to change LT900X3 water filter.

NOTE: The 3-stage filter system is only available on the LPXS30886 model at this time. Additional models may incorporate this option at a later date.

  1. Remove filter cover.

    Disassemble the filter cover. The filter is mounted on the left side of the fresh zone in the refrigerator.

    • Remove the left side fresh zone drawer.

    • Push, then pull out the bottom side of the filter cover to remove it.

  2. Remove old filter.

    Turn the handle on the filter you wish to replace to the left by 90 degrees. Pull forward on the handle to remove the filter.

    NOTE: Some water may come out of the filter during removal. Before removing the filter, place a towel in front of the case to catch the water.

  3. Install new filter.

    Remove the cap from the new filter. Hold the filter handle vertically and insert the filter. Insert the filter completely and turn the handle to the right 90 degrees.

  4. Remove trapped air.

    After installing or replacing the filter, dispense 2.5 gallons each of eater and cold water to remove the air and activated carbon before use.

The LT800P replacement method may very depending on your refrigerator model. Select the model of your unit below.

  1. How to change LT800P the Water filter located on the door.

    1. Remove the water filter

      Lift up and remove the lower door bin. Swing the right end of the water filter out of the compartment and then grasp and rotate the filter counter-clockwise to remove it from the filter head.

    2. Install new water filter

      Take a new water filter out of its packaging and remove the protective cover from the o-rings. Insert the new filter into the filter head and rotate it clockwise until the arrow on the new filter lines up with the arrow on the filter head. Swing the filter back into the compartment.

    3. Remove trapped air.

      Put the lower door bin back to its original position. Now that the filter is replaced, dispense 2.5 gallons of water to remove trapped air and contaminants from the system. Depress and release the dispenser pad for cycles of 30 seconds ON and 60 seconds OFF, rather then dispensing continuously.

      If your model is equipped with a water filter indicator on the display, press and hold the FILTER button or RESET button for approximately 5 seconds to reset the filter indicator.

    Press the push button to open the water filter cover, then rotate the filter down and pull it out.

  3. Install new filter.

    Take a new water filter out of its packaging and remove the protective cover from the o-rings. With the filter tabs in the horizontal position, push the new filter into the manifold hole, rotate it up into place, and close the cover.

  1. Water supply.

    Turn OFF the water supply to the refrigerator from the home valve.

  2. Empty the tub.

    Dispense water from the system to empty the tubing (approximately 50 seconds).

  3. Remove old filter.

    Remove the old cartridge. Rotate the knob of the cartridge counter clockwise. When the cartridge is removed it will click out of place. Pull out the cartridge.

  4. Install new filter.

    Take the new cartridge out of its packaging and remove protective cover from the o-rings. With cartridge knob in the vertical position, push the new filter cartridge into the cover until it stops.

  5. Flush with water.

    Turn the refrigerator's water supply back ON, and flush 2.5 gallons of water through the filter before use (dispense for approximately 5 minutes).

  1. Remove top shelf.

    Turn OFF the water supply to the refrigerator. Take out the top shelf and remove the lamp cover by pressing the tab under the cover and pulling out toward the front.

  2. Remove old filter.

    Remove the old filter by slowly turning it to the left a quarter turn until the unlocked symbol is lined up with the indicator line in the control box area and pulling it down.

  3. Install new filter.

    Take the new filter out of its packaging and remove the protective cap that covers the o-rings. Line up the ears so that it can be inserted into the filter head. Twist the cartridge one quarter turn to the right to lock it into place. You will feel a stop and the lock symbol should know be lined up with the indicator line.

  4. Flush with water.

    Turn the water supply back ON. Replace the lamp cover and top shelf. Flush 1.5 gallons through filter (flush approximately 3 minutes) before use. Once the filter has been replaced open the refrigerator door a few moments later and check the shelf area for any leaks.

NOTE: Some LG refrigerators are also equipped with a fresh air filter. It is recommended that it be replaced every six months as well. Please visit our LG Brand Shop to order your replacement air filter now.
